Junior Bushcraft Expedition

This course provides you with an opportunity to gain the skills which will enable you to undertake your own expeditions. It will also expand upon and consolidate many of the bushcraft skills learned on the Junior Woodlander course.During this six-day course we will cover all the fundamental skills of survival and expeditioning, as well as advanced bushcraft and wilderness living skills. You will receive training in skills such as navigation, canoeing, river crossing and mountianeering and take part in a challenging expedition, while under the expert supervision of our qualified mountain guides. Delivered at a similar pace and intensity as our adult courses, we expect our junior students to be passionate and serious about learning these essential outdoor skills.
We will cover:
- Safe use and maintenance of cutting tools
- Wilderness Fire making techniques, from modern to friction

- Collection, purification and transportation of water
- Advanced techniques for hunting, trapping & fishing
- Natural shelter types; construction and considerations
- Health & hygiene in the backwoods & on expedition
- Modern lightweight shelter options
- Sun/Star-craft navigation
- Wild plant identification; food, folklore and medicine
- Tree identification; food, utility and woodcarving
- Backwoods cookery
- Trail/ expedition food considerations
- The modern outfit - going light
- Mountain safety
- Rope throwing & basic knots
- Map reading/ Navigation
- Safe river crossing
- Flat-water Canoe craft
This course has been specifically designed to compliment students participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award and similar schemes, and is an intensive yet fun way to achieve a high standard of skill at expeditioning and wilderness living.
