African Bushcraft Expedition
please note: This expedition is in the process of being updated - please revisit this page soon or contact our office for further details!
Ben & Lisa have been leading expeditions in Namibia since 2003. This expedition takes place in the truly vast and spectacular mountainous desert region of the Erongo Mountains in African Namibia. With a one-hour time difference you can avoid jet-lag and become immersed in a world of dust, sweat and heat as you hike through the remote desert with only a blanket-pack and some simple equipment to support you. Digging for water in dry river beds, hunting and processing game, scrambling across hot rocks under the fierce desert sun, learning to navigate using the stars, discovering ancient Bushman rock art – yet unknown to archaeologists, and all the while accompanied by highly experienced Woodsmoke staff, Namibian guide and two San Bushman experts to support and teach you throughout this adventure. The journey will begin with a base-camp phase where you will learn the skills to travel safely in this environment. Our group will then embark on a week-long journey across the vast desert spaces and ancient rock, applying and practising desert and mountain wilderness skills, which culminates with a 24hr solo phase giving you the opportunity to put everything into practice for yourself, and reflect on your experiences under a blanket of stars
This expedition is a hands-on, desert survival skills training course and you will be expected to hike, build, gather, trap, dig and cook.
